Revision as of 23:00, 31 December 2025

OVG Hillclimb is a revival of past hillclimb events held in Assetto Corsa. It is a monthly recurring event with a different track and sometimes (not always) different regulations and BOP in each iteration. This series focuses more on mid to long distance time trials with highly built specialized race vehicles, much like popular real life hillclimb events like Pikes Peak, and the top end of the FIA European Hillclimb Championship. Basically if your car looks like it would be featured in the Hillclimb Monsters Youtube Channel then it'll fit right into this series just fine.

To generate your car's performance specs, use the PHYSICS HELPER.
To generate a power curve for your car, use x4fab's TORQUE HELPER.

Event Regulations

Format & Running Order

Running order will be randomly generated.
Competitors will take a standing start behind the start line, but timing will start roughly 5-10 seconds further ahead while the competitor is in the middle of his hot lap.
Drivers perform 3 timed runs, their final time simply the best time of the 3.
Drivers will be released when the car ahead reaches a specific point in the track, will be explained further in the briefing for each event.

Procedure

1. Enter server on the designated time and wait for race control to start the event and call your name.
2. Line up before the start line.
3. Race control will initiate countdown before your run. You can start your run once you hear 'GO'.
4. Assetto Corsa should take care of timing by itself. Your time as stated in server messages will be the time set in the standings.

Server Settings

Server will be run in a "Practice" session.
Practice is allowed and encouraged.
DNF runs will be marked as DNF.
Penalties will be disabled.
Tyre wear will be set to 100%
Fuel usage will be set to 100%
Damage will be set to 100%
Initial track grip will be set to 100%
Tyre blankets will be allowed - stay in your pitbox/garage if you want to keep your tire temps optimal

Technical Regulations

Tires

ALL CARS WILL RUN A SPEC TYRE COMPOUND ON ALL FOUR WHEELS
Tyre dimensions (WIDTH, RADIUS and RIM_RADIUS in tyres.ini) may be adjusted to match 3D.

Engine/Propulsion

For ICE only vehicles, total power must not exceed 1050 BHP (based on data displayed in Content Manager, with 13% transmission loss).
For EVs and Hybrids, total power must not exceed 1050 BHP (based on calculated values from the Physics Helper).
Maximum RPM for ICE is 10500 RPM.
Onboard turbo adjustment is prohibited.
Hybrids and EVs are only allowed two deployment modes: charging and hotlap.
Onboard electric energy management is allowed only to the extent of switching between the above two deployment modes.
Hybrid systems incurs a weight penalty based on your car's BHP.
EVs incur a weight penalty based on your car's BHP.
Minimum fuel consumption is based on your car's internal combustion BHP output and max RPM.
For fully electric vehicles, fuel consumption may equal 0.

Drivetrain

Maximum 7 forward gears, gear ratios free.
Electronic differentials are prohibited on ICE and hybrid vehicles, allowed for EVs.
4 wheel steering is prohibited on ICE and hybrid vehicles, allowed for EVs.
AWD2 is prohibited on ICE and hybrid vehicles, allowed for EVs.
AWD incurs a weight penalty based on your car's BHP.

Chassis

Use the Physics Helper to calculate your car's minimum weight.

Maximum wheelbase must not exceed 3.5 meters.
Maximum wheel track must not exceed 1.8 meters.

Total brake force must not exceed 5000Nm (Including regen).
Submitted cars must make use of extended physics for the brakes.
Spec brake thermals will not be enforced, however a car may be rejected if submitted with parameters that do not make sense. Reference data for brake thermals is available in the download links below.
You can copy paste from either of the brake thermal reference inis and be done with it, in fact it's preferable.

Ground collider must match underside of car 3D.

Static Height of Center of Gravity (CGH at 0 km/h) must not be lower than 0.33.

Aerodynamics

Total number of wings must not exceed 8.
Total number of fins must not exceed 1.
Physics wings must match the approximate shape of 3D wings.
Changing CL_GAIN and CD_GAIN multipliers is fine as it's the easiest way to make your car's physics match what you generated with the Physics Helper. Just don't make unrealistic wings like for example, a tiny single element with a CL _GAIN mult of 3 giving 1000 kg of downforce by itself.

Use the Physics Helper to calculate the aero limits of your car.
CL and CD values generated by the Physics Helper represent your car's aero performance at its highest downforce setting.
You are not allowed to have better aero efficiency ratio (EFF) than what is generated.
You are not allowed to have a better CL or CD than what is generated, even if you balance them out for an equal or worse EFF.

Active aero is prohibited.
Aero fans are prohibited.

Electronics

Onboard brake bias adjustment is prohibited.
TCS is prohibited.
ABS prohibition may differ round to round. Series organizer will announce if it is allowed.
For round 1, ABS is allowed.

Others

Series organizer reserves the right to reject a submitted car or to apply a change to it for reasons not covered by the above regulations.

Rules

  • Presence on Mumble is mandatory, you don't have to talk, you just need to be there to listen to instructions.
  • Custom Shaders Patch is REQUIRED to join the server. Latest stable version of CSP is recommended.
    • SOL or PURE is recommended to sync the time of day correctly, but isn't required.
  • You may only submit 1 car. Any other car you make can be a spare car for another participant to use.
  • Submitted cars MUST have an unpacked data folder and only 1 skin.
    • Data folders will be packed into ACD files and placed on the server, so you may not edit your car after you have submitted it.
    • Penalty time will be added if I have to edit your car because it doesn't load or because you included 500mb of useless files and skins.
  • If you are found taking advantage of the disabled penalties YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED WITHOUT WARNING.
  • You may only join the server with your car.
  • Cars found breaking regulations will not be added to the server.
  • MAKE SURE TO LINK THE MOD YOU USE IN THE GOOGLE DOC OR SEND A EMAIL TO THE ADDRESS ON THE DOC, OTHERWISE YOU'RE NOT GETTING YOUR CAR ON THE SERVER.
    • Remember to include any drivers and fonts your cars uses.
  • Modpack deadline is one week before the designated start of the event.
  • Please make sure your car's folder under content/cars is in ALL LOWERCASE. USE UNDERSCORE (_) INSTEAD OF SPACES ( ). Improper formatting of mod folder name will cause issues in-game.
  • To make OVG Hillclimb mods easier to search for/organize in Content Manager, please add _ovghillclimb to the end of the folder and add OVG_Hillclimb to car tags in ui.json.
  • A disconnection from the server in the middle of an attempt will be considered a DNF, and you have to wait for your next attempt to try again.
  • After you finish your run, wait at the summit of the mountain (or the area after the finish line).
  • Slower cars MUST yield to the faster car behind them as quickly as possible.
  • If you come off the track you may attempt to return provided you give way to any oncoming cars.
  • If you crash out and cannot continue, teleport back to the pits as soon as possible.
  • Any updates will be marked in red.

FAQ

Why did you ruin a cool idea with all these fucking rules?
It's my series I'll do what I like.

Will the BOP/regs change month to month?
Yes and no. Depending on how I structure the calendar, we may have consecutive months using the same BOP/regs, with some curveballs in between with some changes, like for example, lower max HP or an entirely different spec tire.

Do I have to build a car that meets the regs or can I just show up with anything?
I mean, I guess you can show up with any car that doesn't break the rules if you really wanted, but that's not really the spirit of this event

I want to build a car but it's hard to find parts for it, what can I do?
A 3D asset repository will be shared in this wiki to help speed up the process of you putting a car together. See links above.

I'm too lazy to make a car myself, wat do?
Ask anyone in the mattermost for help or if they have a spare car. If you're having a hard time getting a spare car from everyone else (or if they don't have any left), I have many for you to choose from.

Can I use my old 2022 Pikes Peak car?
Yes, but with adjustments to suit new regulations and BOP parameters.

Can I use someone else's 2022 Pikes Peak car/spare car that he isn't using?
Only if that car's owner agrees to it. Ping him in ~Racing Games General of the /ovg/ Mattermost so that I can see whether permission is given or not. The original owner of the car you want to enter reserves the right to refuse this request for any given reason.

I found a car I really want to use and be competitive with, but I don't understand/care for all of that autistic bullshit you wrote above?
Go on the /ovg/ Mattermost and ask questions for things you don't understand. If you don't care though then that's not our problem. /ovg/ has hosted multiple bring-your-own-car series in Assetto for a few years now and participants understood the assignment just fine.
If you get on the Mattermost to ask for help only to go around in circles complaining about why Assetto Corsa modding sucks, do not be surprised if you get bullied if not ejected out of the community. Please don't waste our time.

Where can I download the track/tyres?
Here when I finish them.

Holy shit the road is bumpy.
That's not a question.
